The European Commission has approved DSM N.V.'s (P.O. Box 6500, 6401 JH Heerlen, The Netherlands; Tel: 31(45) 578 24 25) purchase of the Vitamins and Fine Chemicals division of Roche, clearing the way for completion of the acquisition in the third quarter of this year.
The commission had expressed concern about alliances in the feed enzymes markets - DSM's with BASF and Roche's with Novozymes - that can affect competition. To alleviate concerns, DSM terminated its alliance with BASF for the production and distribution of feed enzymes and transferred its activities to a purchaser to be approved by the Commission.
