INTRODUCTION

Although Asian/Pacific Islanders (A/PIs) show lower rates of HIV infection than other racial/ethnic groups in the United States, there are several reasons for concern about HIV for these populations. First, certain subgroups of A/PIs appear at high risk of HIV infection. A recent seroprevalence study of young gay men, conducted in seven U.S. cities, found that A/PI gay men have higher rates of infection than White gay men, although lower than African American or Latino gay men (Valleroy et al., 2000).
