When Volume 1 of the Archives hit the streets in 1971, there were only two other English language journals that published empirical and theoretical material under the broad rubric of sex, gender, and sexuality: Hormones and Behavior, now the official journal of the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology, and the Journal of Sex Research, published by the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.
