GOING FROM THE smooth sailing of being owned by the largest adhesives maker to the sometimes-rough waters of being a stand-alone company can be a risky move. But so far Cognis officials are not complaining.

"The new structure was very well accepted by our employees," said Susanne Marell, vice president corporate communications at Cognis. "One of our objectives is for Cognis to operate as one company.

"We have already proven that we can work well as one company with everything we have done since the sale."
