Adhesives Age, June, 2003 by John A. Taylor
CAPELLA'S STUDIES of curtain physics and formulation chemistry create new capabilities to solve operating problems with curtain coaters. Capella's Stretch Tester measures rheology and surface tension at process conditions and can predict the coat weight speed window with just 250 cc of coating. It also identifies which aspect of the coating to change.
New formulations can be determined in a few days to run pinhole free curtain flows as low as 0.4 gm/cm/sec.; pinhole free at any flow rate; increased solids; puddling free up to flow of 9.6 gm/cm/sec.; and stable non-wandering curtains. The studies provide a new ...
