Addressing the differences between ethnic groups is a challenge that marketers, color teams, and chemists must meet to be able to capitalize on existing opportunities. When we think about "ethnic" consumers it is important to remember that they are not one large homogeneous group. "Environmental, geographical, and lifestyle factors, such as food intake all effect skin's tone, texture, and oil levels," says Patrick Obukowho, research manager, personal care applications at Croda, an ingredient supplier based in Edison, NJ. These cultural and environmental differences create the need for a variety of shades and skin care regimens. With that in mind, manufacturers are extending color collections and skin care systems to cater to a wider range of ethnic groups.
