MatriCal launched the Scan X 2D, a universal 2D barcode reader that can operate stand alone or in an automated environment. This compact machine is able to operate in temperatures as low as -20[degrees]C, allowing tubes to be read inside an automated sample management system and preserving sample integrity.

It is able to read SBS/ANSI formatted vial racks (24 capacity) and tube microplates (96 and 384). The MatriScan's optical lens scans one image of the entire rack allowing for quick turnaround time (15-30 seconds). MatriCal, Inc., 509-343-6225, www.matrical.com
