Kraft Expands In Russia.(Kraft Foods Co., Stollwerck AG acquisition)(Brief Article)

NORTHFIELD, IL -- Kraft Foods acquires the central and eastern European confectionery business of Germany-based Stollwerek AG. Terms of the agreement, which awaits regulatory approval, were not disclosed.

Kraft will acquire Stollwerek's Russian, Polish and Hungarian businesses with brands including Alpen Gold, Pokrov, Tibi and Americana. Stollwerek's manufacturing facilities are located in Poznan, Poland; Budapest, Hungary; and Pokrov, Russia. In 2000, revenues for the businesses were approximately $150 million, according to Stollwerek, which will retain its business in Germany and the rest of Europe.
