Clariant and Ciba Specialty Chemicals are some of the first dedicated specialty chemical companies in Europe to become successful. Many of Europe's specialty chemical organizations are merely divisions of diversified companies. US specialty firms have been more successful obtaining solid profit margins, though some are struggling to improve operating margins. Analysts indicate that US firms need to invest in organizations outside the US, but others expect US growth to stem from grassroots expansion efforts coupled with savvy acquisitions.
