DuPont Plant Fails Equal Opportunity Test.(Brief Article)

A recent run-in between DuPont and federal labor officials indicates that companies may want to review their hiring practices before the government does it for them. The U.S. Department of Labor last month cited DuPont's Waynesboro, VA fibers plant for a pre-employment test that the government says discriminates against women. DuPont is a federal contractor and must comply with federal equal opportunity employment guidelines.

DuPont will pay $14,731 each to 31 women, the largest per capita settlement of its kind. The company also will hire eight of the women who may have been wrongly weeded out of an applicant pool during a 1997 round of hiring.
