Basell to Join Shell's Singapore Project.(Brief Article)

Basell says it is in talks with its 50% owner Shell Chemicals to participate in a petrochemical project that Shell is planning at Pulau Bukom, Singapore (CW Oct. 24, p. 19). Basell is interested in investing in world-scale polyethylene and polypropylene units downstream from Shell's planned ethylene plant, says Basell CEO Volker Trautz.

Shell and Sumitomo Chemical, its partner in Petrochemical Corp. of Singapore, are discussing the the joint construction of a 1-million m.t./year ethylene plant at Bukom. Mitsui Chemicals, which is planning to merge with Sumitomo, will also likely be a partner.
