Renewable Plastics R&D.(Department of Energy gives Dow Chemical $5 million)(Brief Article)

Dow Chemical says it has been awarded nearly $5 million by the Department of Energy (DOE) to fund research into making plastics and chemicals from renewable plant oils, including castor seed oil. The award will cover about half the cost of a four-year project, Dow says. The company will work jointly with Castor Oil, Inc.

(Plainview, TX), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Western Regional Research Center (Albany, CA). The award is part of $30 million in DOE funding for bioproducts and bioenergy research.
