Ajinomoto, the world's largest lysine producer, says it is planning to expand its worldwide lysine capacity by 50% by 2005, to 300,000 m.t./year. Ajinomoto will invest $11 million to raise capacity at Eddyville, IO from 40,000 m.t./year, to 50,000 m.t./year by mid-2002. It will spend [yen]3.5 billion ($27 million) to increase capacity at Pathunthani, Thailand from 30,000 m.t./year, to 50,000 m.t./year, and a further [euro]6 million ($5.2 million) to raise capacity at Bottrighe, Italy, from 20,000 m.t./year, to 30,000 m.t./year both projects are due for completion in early 2003.

Ajinomoto is also studying expansions of its 30,000-m.t./year Varparaiso, Brazil unit, its 20,000-m.t./year Chengdu, China plant, and its 60,000-m.t./year unit at Amiens, France, plant....
