Hope springs eternal in the water treatment industry, despite the effects of an economic slowdown that has added to the pressure from customers for lower prices, new ways to reduce processing costs, global supply networks, and increased onsite service. The turbulence among companies supplying the $7-billion/year worldwide market has intensified due to the relative maturity in some regions, including the U.S., and consolidation among customers and suppliers alike, executives say.
