Nippon A&L (Osaka), a 67-33 joint venture between Sumitomo Chemical and Mitsui Chemicals, has agreed to acquire Takeda Chemical Industries styrene butadiene (SB) latex business, effective October 1, for an undisclosed amount. The business makes SB latex at Shimizu, Japan and has sales of [en]2.5 billion($22 million)/year.

It follows an agreement last year under which Takeda transferred its SB latex sales and technology operations to Nippon A&L. The acquisition was announced two days after Sumitomo said it would buy Takeda's pesticides business (p. 16). Sumitomo and Mitsui created Nippon A&L in 1999 by merging their respective SB latex and acrylonitrile butadiene styrence operations. The jv has sales of [en]26.5 billion/year.
