Toyo Engineering says it has been awarded a [euro]30-million ($30 million) lump-sum contract to build a previously announced 5,000-m.t./ year specialty bisphenols plant for Hi-Bis at Bitterfeld, Germany (CW, Dec. 19/26, 2001, p. 6). Hi-Bis is owned 55% by Honshu Chemical Industry, 35% by Mitsui & Co, and 10% by Bayer.
The plant will use Honshu's technology and is due to be completed at the end of 2004. Output from the plant will be used to manufacture specialty polycarbonate used in automotive parts and high-density DVDs.
