Chemical Week, March, 2003 by Walsh, Kerri
The CW75 slipped 1% last week, approaching its 52-week low of 85.77 reached on October 9, amid concerns about rising costs, and investor jitters across all regions. The CW75 faired better than the Morgan Stanley world composite and Standard & Poor's 500 indexes, however; they fell 5% and 3%, respectively.
Laggards beat out leaders last week, with European firms dominating the list. ICI's shares slid following a warning by Sherwin-Williams that it expected coatings sales and volumes to drop during the first quarter. Bayer's stock tumbled on news that shareholders have filed suit against the company in a federal district court in New York over its cholesterol-lowering Baycol drug that was pulled off the market in August 2001.
