Chemical Week, December, 2003
The CW75 rose 3% for the week ending December 3, reflecting investor confidence of a rebound in the chemical sector. The CW75 outpaced broader indexes including the Morgan Stanley global composite, which rose 1.6%, and the Standard & Poor's 500, which increased less than 1%. Basic chemical stocks rose 5%, diversified improved 2%, and specialties 2%.
Ciba Specialty Chemicals' stock rose 7.2%, to $37.75/share, on December 3, just shy of its 52-week high. Nova Chemicals' stock closed at $25.65/share, just below its 52-week high. Both stocks rose as a result of increased investor interest, analysts say.
