Chemical Week, May, 2004

OxyChem and PPG Industries have separately announced price increases of $45/ton for caustic soda, and $20/ton for chlorine. OxyChem's increase is effective immediately; PPG's is effective July 1. The companies say the latest caustic soda increase is in addition to earlier increases of $50/ton on diaphragm-grade caustic, and $60/ton on membrane-grade material, which were due to be implemented in June.

Caustic soda prices are $75-$95/ton fob for contracts, and $100-$110/ton fob for spot cargoes. Second-quarter chlorine prices are $265-$295/ton fob. No other producers had followed the increases at CW press time late last week.
