Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development (Taipei) has approved a six-year ethylene expansion plan for Chinese Petroleum Corp.'s (CPC; Taipei) No. 3 naphtha cracker at Kaohsiung, Taiwan. CPC plans to invest NT$42.6 billion ($1.25 billion) to raise ethylene capacity of the unit from 230,000 m.t./year, to 1 million m.t./year (CW, March 26, 2003, p.

12). Taiwan's ethylene shortage this year will reach 425,000 m.t., due to several planned turnarounds, sources say.
