Toyo Engineering lands flame retardants contract.(new construction projects)(Brief Article)

Daihachi Chemical Industry (Osaka) says it is investing $17 million to build a plant at Changsu, China that will make flame retardants for engineering plastics. Daihachi has appointed Toyo Engineering to supply the unit, which will use Daihachi's proprietary technology to produce aliphatic polyphosphate phosphonate.

Completion of the unit is scheduled for summer 2005. Separately, Toyo has been awarded a contract to build Nippon Shokubai's previously announced superabsorbents plant at Zhangjiagang, China (CW, Aug. 18, p. 33). The total investment cost of that plant is about $45 million, Toyo says. Completion is due this year.
