I know that steroids can help you grow big muscles. How are they bad for you?

Dear Megan:

Some people take steroids to make their muscles bigger. Others take them just to improve the way they look. Some people take steroids because their friends do.

However, even though steroids might increase muscle size, they don't increase muscle strength. And they can seriously hurt your body. People who take steroids over a long period of time can develop liver tumors and heart problems. People who take steroids for just a short period of time can develop acne, rashes, growth and body development problems, high blood pressure, and male baldness.
