380 000 t/a MEG unit in Shanghai Petrochemical starts construction.(Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Ltd., mono ethylene glycol)(Brief Article)

The 380 000 t/a mono ethylene glycol (MEG) unit in Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. started construction on Jan. 25, 2005. After the completion of the unit, the total capacity of MEG in the company will reach 610 000 t/a, holding the first place in China. The project has a total investment of nearly RMB1.0 billion and will use the world advanced process technologies and catalysts.
MEG is a chemical raw material with extensive application. It is mainly used to produce polyester and automobile anti-freezing agents.
