120 000 t/a BPA unit starts construction in Shanghai.(Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals Company Ltd. builds bisphenol A plant )(Brief article)

On July 28th, 2006, the ground breaking ceremony for the 120 000 t/a bisphenol A (BPA) unit of Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals Co., Ltd. was held in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. As the first cooperative project between Sinopec Corp. and Mitsui Chemicals Inc. of Japan, the project has a total investment of nearly RMB1 billion with each part holds 50% equity according to the contract signed on October 15th, 2005. BPA is an important raw material to produce epoxy resin and polycarbonate resin. Sinopec Corp. has a number of solely funded firms and joint ventures in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, including a 200 000 t/a phenol/acetone unit.
