The popularity of the microcontroller--the brains of Adidas's new smart running shoe--continues to grow as the device finds it ways into myriad applications. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, sales of microcontrollers will grow 12.1 percent this year to $11.2B, then increase 6 percent to $11.8B in 2005, and 2 percent to $12.1B in 2006.
