The UK government has agreed to reassess how age discrimination rules will be applied to pension schemes and it will delay implementing the regulations for pensions until December 1. Mercer Human Resource Consulting, which has lobbied against the proposals, welcomed the decision, but expressed disappointment that it was not made earlier.

"Some pension schemes may have spent a great deal of money trying to comply with the initial proposals," said Deborah Cooper, principal at Mercer.
