Barney Rosset, the legendary publisher who created Grove Press and went into debt fighting the great censorship battles of the sixties and seventies, has been forced into bankruptcy by a $3.1 million verdict in a libel case. And he wasn't even a party to the suit. The Association of American Publishers, the trade association for the publishing industry, said this was the first case of a book publisher going out of business because of a libel judgment.

Back in August, a Las Vegas jury awarded Steve Wynn, a casino operator, a libel judgment against Barricade Books. Barricade was the distributor of Rosset's new company, Blue Moon.
