Cisco Walks Fine Line To Future Growth And Profit.(Company Business and Marketing)

Balance is important to Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers. While some companies focus on specific markets, the networking equipment powerhouse has simultaneously pushed into a dozen different product areas. And while its competitors have shown signs of faltering, Cisco-at least for the time being-is continuing to meet expectations for growth in selling its products to enterprises, service providers and small and medium-sized businesses around the world.
"Companies that only focus on one or two product areas, or on one major line of business, or one or two major geographies, may look very good when their limited focus is going well," Chambers told investors last week in a veiled reference to competitors.
