FCC Delays Deutsche Telekom Deal To Analyze Impact.(acquisition of VoiceStream Wireless Corp)(Company Business and Marketing)

The FCC's decision on Deutsche Tetekom's proposed acquisition of VoiceStream Wireless Corp. won't be made until this week at the earliest, according to those close to the situation. Sources say the commission is taking time to draft a careful analysis of the deal because it will set a precedent since the German government has a 44 percent direct stake in Deutsche Tetekom. An internaL, six-month non-binding deadline for a decision passed April 8.

Sen. Ernest Hollings, D-S.C., among other lawmakers, has opposed the deal based on the German government's stake in Deutsche Tetekom and the transaction's potential impact on competition and national security.
