European WASPs Face Threat Of Extinction.(Company Business and Marketing)

LONDON--There's a lot of buzz in Europe's WASP market, but it's the sound of a market in a consolidation phase. In a few years, wireless application service providers likely will be absorbed either by the wider ASP market, wireless operators or systems integrators.

That's the grim message from the Yankee Group's recent report, "Wireless ASPs in Europe: An Endangered Species," which smokes out much of the hype in the WASP nest. "The number of self-proclaimed WASPs, and even ASPs, will be drastically reduced over the next few years, leaving only a handful of providers across Europe able to call themselves enterprise-class, full-service retail WASPs," the report concludes.
