Users Turned To Pagers When Phone Lines Went Down In Crisis
Reflecting in his office a week after terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Alex LeVine could compare the scene to only one thing: a volcanic eruption. "Windows were blown open. The entire office was just coated in soot. We lost power and connectivity for days and days," he says.
LeVine is co-founder and vice president of operations for Upoc, a New York City-based startup that delivers entertainment and marketing content to the mobile phones of teenagers and young adults. The company's offices are three blocks from the site of two plane crashes that claimed the lives of thousands of people.
