With Spectrum Intact, MMDS Providers Are Back In Business

A collective sigh of relief could be heard on Sept. 24 as incumbent license holders and operators in the 2500-2690 MHz spectrum band rejoiced over the FCC's decision allowing them to stay in the band, rather than forcing them to relocate to other frequencies.

While unpopular with wireless carriers that had hoped the commission would move these incumbents to make way for next-generation advanced wireless services, the ruling is a huge victory for multichannel multipoint distribution services operators and vendors, many of which until now have been hindered by the uncertainly surrounding the spectrum and its future.
