When it comes to political advertising--at least traditional mediums such as television, radio and print--the rules are pretty clear. Disclaimers are a must, even if they run in tiny print. But when it comes to new technology such as SMS, the rules aren't as clear. Target Wireless hopes to change that.
The New Jersey-based company, which specializes in mobile advertising, has filed a petition with the Federal Election Commission, asking the agency to allow an exemption in the disclosure rules for SMS political ads.
Mobile advertising still is in its infancy in the United States, but it is starting to grow and pique the interest of politicians and vendors. Political advertising could be part of new revenue streams for carriers, content providers...
