WASHINGTON -- Although the high-profile court battle over wireline-to-wireless local number portability drew a lot of attention, a less noticeable battle may bring more weight and consequence, analysts and industry watchers say.

The United States Telecom Association's 11th hour battle against wireline-to-wireless number porting in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals was unsuccessful, as the court earlier this month rejected USTA's request to re-evaluate LNP for wireline companies.

Wireline phone companies' primary lobbying organization told the court that the FCC had backed a "deeply flawed and discriminatory" policy in wireline-to-wireless number portability and the rules put them at "dire" competitive disadvantage.
