WASHINGTON -- It sounds like bad TV commercial, but it ay help decide the fate of how wireless, wireline and cable networks ultimately meld together in the future.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments at the end of March on FCC v. Brand X Internet Services.

The arguments by FCC and cable industry lawyers will lay out why cable companies' broadband data network facilities should be left largely unregulated and not subject to leasing out to smaller competitors. Cable's broadband data services, provided through cable modems, are considered "information services" and haven't been subject to the same regulations as "telecommunications services" provided by traditional wireline networks.
