The United States increasingly is becoming a cashless society, although one of the purchases that has resisted that trend is the ubiquitous parking meter. In many places, quarters and dollar bills still have to be kept around to feed these hungry contraptions. It appears the parking meter might have a shortened lifespan sometime in the future, replaced by the ability to use your wireless handset to pay for parking.
