Leave it to researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to come up with a technology good enough to determine whether someone is being a jerk. As part of a project based on predicting people's behavior, researchers developed the Jerk-O-Meter, a prototype real-time speech analyzer application running in Linux on a Sharp Zaurus VoIP phone.

From a technical perspective, the Jerk-O-Meter easily could be converted into a downloadable cell phone app. researchers say.
