Carriers Mull California Rules Proposal.(California Public Utilities Commission proposes new rules for wireless industry to protect consumers from telecom fraud)

By Mark Rockwell The California Public Utility Commission is at it again, but this time, the rules are not quite as severe. For the wireless industry, the California Public Utility Commission's (CPUC) proposed rules are new and improved, but the industry would rather not see any new rules at all.

Late last year, before the departure of outgoing commissioner Susan Kennedy, the CPUC issued its new rules. Co-engineered and backed by Kennedy and CPUC Commissioner and President Michael Peevey, the latest proposal includes several overarching programs aimed at better informing consumers of billing and services, as well as a mechanism to rein in carriers that abuse consumer rules.
