Sprint and T-Mobile USA make efforts to tackle their high churn levels while Verizon basks in the 2Q afterglow.

If carriers were ranked solely on their ability to keep customers, Verizon Wireless and Cingular Wireless would be tops, with Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA in the losers' corner.

In the second quarter of 2006, Verizon blew away the competition by reporting a record 0.87 percent postpaid retail churn, beating Cingular's 1.5 percent, Sprint's 2.1 percent and T-Mobile's 2.2 percent. Cingular actually didn't do too shabby, improving its overall churn performance year-over-year by 50 basis points.
