The Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002: reviewing the corporate governance scorecard.(Turning Point)

IN JULY 2002, A MILESTONE FOR corporate governance reform in the US, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, became law. However, its legislative effects on the American business community have only become noticeable over the past year, as mandatory corporate compliance with regulatory provisions came into effect. As a consequence of these regulatory compliance requirements, the US Congress is now considering amending this legislation, responding to criticisms from major business groups, such as the US Chamber of Commerce and the Financial Services Roundtable, who are calling for technical changes in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to rein in its reportedly high regulatory compliance costs (Johnson 2005).
