IMPORTED FOOD PRODUCTS GROWING SCARCE IN SUPERMARKETS.(Brief Article)

Indonesian Commercial Newsletter, September, 2001

Supermarkets especially members of the Aprindo are expected to have dwindling stocks of imported food and beverage products starting October. A decision of Aprindo was issued on August 10 asking all members of the association not to sell products not having the codes of ML, MD, SP and Indonesian label starting September, 2001.

The rule reguring the use of Indonesian label for imported food products would not likely be fully complied with now. Suppliers abroad would not easy accept the rule unless Indonesian importers could meet certain limit of order. They may be willing to use Indonesian label for large imports.
