Developed with high optimism

The draft 2002 state budget that was announced by the Government on 8 September, 2001 or two months after the controversial but peaceful succession of leadership had been developed in an atmosphere of high optimism on the prospects of sped-up national economic recovery. As may have been known, the emergence of the new administration helped strengthen the rupiah to Rp 8,500 to the U.S. dollar only within a month from as low as Rp 11,000 to the U.S. dollar shortly before the succession of leadership took place.

Seen from the fact that the rupiah is still unstable and that it has even dropped to lower than Rp 9,100 to the U.S. dollar in September, it seems that the foundation for such optimism is quite fragile
