The economic recession in Japan hit many large companies and has been weakening their financial capabilities to support their expansion abroad. Since early 1990s the development of petrochemical industry has been shifting from East Asia including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to Southeast Asia which enjoyed economic boom during that period. Indonesia was one of the best place for Japanese investors to develop the petrochemical Industry.
