Nicor Gas, gas distribution business, has entered into an agreement in principle which, upon finalization, would result in a pre-tax recovery of approximately $20 million. This would positively impact Nicor's earnings by nearly $.30 per share.

Beginning in late 2000, Nicor Gas had found instances where mercury had been spilled inside customer homes in the course of maintaining and operating metering equipment.
