Cal Poly wins Harper flexo prize

Label & Narrow Web, May-June, 2005

California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, is the winner of the 2005 Harper Flexo College of the Year, a North American award created and presented by anilox roll manufacturer Harper Corporation.

The award was presented to Cal Poly Associate Professor Malcolm Keif at the Flexographic Technical Association's 2005 FTA Forum.

Second place went to Appalachian State University of Boone, NC; and 2003 winner Dunwoody Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, MN, received third place.

Each participating school submitted a notebook or CD which was reviewed by a panel of industry veterans and judged on a variety of criteria, including appearance, information about the school and its flexo printing program, print samples, student comments, and interviews with converters.

This year's judges included: Dan Heller, Mastergraphics; Ken Lowden, chairman of the 2004 FFTA Forum; Bettylyn Krafft, Krafft Printing Systems; Kelly Roberts, Canflexographics; and Howard Vreeland Jr., Anderson & Vreeland.

Cal Poly recently received two new flexo printing units and a diecutting station from Mark Andy for its model 2200 press.
