Publishers: In Washington state, Roger Oglesby has been named publisher and editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Oglesby joins the P-I and Hearst Corp. after several years at Times Mirror Co. of Los Angeles, most recently as president of the Orange County edition of the Los Angeles Times. He succeeds J.D. Alexander, who has been named assistant to the president of Hearst Newspapers, George Irish. ...

Executive offices: In California, Steven Lee has been named president of the Orange County edition of the Los Angeles Times. Lee, who will oversee advertising, circulation and marketing, will continue as president of the paper's Inland Valley/San Gabriel Valley edition, which he introduced in 1998. ... In Georgia, Tom Bates has been named vice president of programming and product development for Cox Interactive Media of Atlanta. Most recently, Bates had been general manager of CIMedia's web studio in Providence, R.I. Previously he was senior vice president for advertising of New Century Network, a coalition of newspapers on-line, and before that, managing director of the international edition of USA Today. ... In Maryland, Mary Esmond has been named vice president of new business development of Baltimore's Sun. Previously the paper's director of Brand Builders, a new business enterprise, Esmond has a strong background in television. ... In New York, Craig Calder has been named vice president of marketing for Times Co. Digital, the web arm of the New York Times Co. Calder, who will oversee brand and product marketing strategy, had been senior director of marketing and programming for Nickelodeon Online since late 1997. ... In Ohio, the board of directors of Cincinnati-based E.W. Scripps company has elected Kenneth Lowe president, chief operating officer and a director. Lowe, who has held several executive positions since joining Scripps in 1980, had been chairman and chief executive officer of Scripps Networks. He takes the title of president from William Burleigh, who will continue as chairman and CEO until fall, when he will reach the company's mandatory retirement age. ... In Texas, Marian Spitzberg has been promoted to senior vice president for human resources of Belo Corp. of Dallas. Spitzberg had been Belo's secretary and vice president/deputy general counsel; she joined the company in 1992 as assistant general counsel. ...

Newsroom names: In Maryland, Jim Asher has been named the first metro editor for enterprise and projects at The Sun of Baltimore. City editor since 1994, Asher previously worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer as well as papers in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. Succeeding Asher as city editor is John Fairhall, who had been editor of the paper's Howard County bureau. Fairhall started work in 1981 for The Evening Sun, which folded in 1995 ... In New York, Lee Kravitz has been named editor of Parade magazine and a senior vice president of Parade Publications. Kravitz joins Parade from the helm of the teen-oriented magazine he founded, React, which is also owned by Parade Publications. ... In Washington state, Ken Bunting has been named executive editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Bunting had been managing editor of the P-I since 1993; before that he held newsroom posts at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Texas, Los Angeles Times, Sacramento Bee and Cincinnati Post.
