It's easy to spot the employees of Blue Ribbon Roofing and Siding. They're the ones walking around with three-ringed binders in their hands.
"Everybody has one," says Scott Lenahan, the vice president of Blue Ribbon.
The binders arrived when Blue Ribbon's biggest customer, home-builder K. Hovnanian Cos., required each of its contractors to enroll in the NAHB Research Center's National Housing Quality (NHQ) Certified Trade Contractor program.
Eighteen months later, in June, Blue Ribbon became the first New Jersey-based contractor specializing in roofing, siding, windows and gutters to receive the certification.
