IE helps Story succeed as VP. (industrial engineer Susan Story of Alabama Power Co.)
IIE Solutions, September, 1996 by Boggs, Kathryn C.
"Find what you enjoy the most and be good at it."
That advice not only comes from Susan Story, it is advice she has followed throughout her career. As a leader with the largest electric utility company in Alabama, Story has had a successful career with Alabama Power Co., a division of the Southern Co. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Auburn University in industrial engineering, she went to work for Alabama Power in 1982 as a nuclear engineer. Since then, she has worked her way up through many divisions within the company to her current position of vice president of corporate real estate. Not only was Story the youngest person to become a vice president at Alabama Power, she was also the first woman to attain a position at this level.
