CANONSBURG, Pa. -- Mylan Laboratories Inc. is one of the world's leading generics and speciality pharmaceutical companies. As one of the generics industry's pioneers, Mylan has remained committed to providing consumers with an extensive line of high-quality, affordable pharmaceuticals in a variety of dosage forms since the company's inception in 1961.

"With a unique combination of high-quality products, innovative R&D, strategic vertical and horizontal integration, an expanding global footprint, regulatory expertise and an unparalleled level of customer service Mylan is a world-class global pharmaceutical leader unlike any other," states Harry Korman, the company's president.

In fiscal 2007 Mylan achieved record-setting results. The company earned 29 product application approvals including 15 final ANDA approvals. The company also launched 19 generic products, bringing its total portfolio to more than 170 marketed products.

During the past fiscal year Mylan was first to market with two major opportunities that the company was first to file: oxybutynin chloride ER tablets (generic version of Johnson & Johnson's Ditropan XL) and amlodipine besylate tablets (generic version of Pfizer's Norvasc).

"By challenging the patents on these two blockbuster products and being the first generics company that was able to successfully bring the products to market prior to patent expiration, Mylan was able to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in reduced health care costs for patients, corporations, the government and taxpayers," comments Korman.

During fiscal 2007 the company completed a major expansion of its Morgantown, W. Va., manufacturing facility that established it as one of the largest pharmaceutical facilities in the United States. During the year, Mylan manufactured and shipped approximately 14.1 doses.

A member of the S&P 500 and traded on the New York Stock Exchange, Mylan has a proven history of steady, long-term growth, strategically positioned for future success in the rapidly consolidating global pharmaceutical industry with two recent acquisitions:

* Mylan Generics: Mylan expects to close this generic pharmaceuticals business of Germany's Merck KGaA on or around the first of October. With 23 distinct and successful business units and sales in more than 90 countries, Merck Generics is the world's largest generics and specialty pharmaceutical company with a broad portfolio of more than 400 high quality products using a wide range of delivery systems and dosage forms.

* Matrix Laboratories: In January 2007, Mylan completed a pivotal acquisition by obtaining a majority stake in India's Matrix Laboratories Limited. With five business units and joint partnerships, Matrix is the world's second-largest supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) overall and is the leading provider of API for antiretrovirals (ARV) used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Merck Generics will integrate with Matrix and the U.S.-based operations of Mylan Laboratories that include Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., the company's flagship generic pharmaceuticals company based in Morgantown; Mylan Technologies Inc., a world leader in transdermal drug-delivery technology in St. Albans, Vt.,; and UDL Laboratories Inc., the nation's leading unit dose supplier based in Rockford, Ill.

"After the successful acquisition of Merck Generics, Mylan will offer a diversified portfolio of more than 560 products in most therapeutic categories," says Korman.

The combined global company will also have manufacturing capabilities in most specialized finished dosage forms and delivery systems including solid orals, transdermal patches, controlled-release/potency formulations, sterile liquids, inhalants and creams.

Mylan will have a combined workforce of about 11,400 employees, maintain locations and facilities in 24 countries around the world and market products in more than 90 countries.

"As it has during the past 46 years, Mylan will remain steadfast in its commitment to all employees and the communities in which it operates," says Korman.
