Inyx to acquire rights to six eye care lines

Chain Drug Review, Feb 19, 2007

NEW YORK -- Inyx Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company that is focused on niche drug delivery technologies and products, has signed an agreement to purchase six eye care product licenses from Advanced Medical Optics Inc.

The acquisition is expected to close by August 31.

Inyx will assign the business and marketing rights of the over-the-counter products to its wholly owned subsidiary, Exaeris Inc., which will distribute the line worldwide under the Exaeris banner.

"These are single-purpose, proven, safe products," says Jack Kachkar, chairman and chief executive officer of Inyx. "As part of the acquisition Exaeris will be taking over established customer relations with leading discounters, grocers and drug wholesalers in the U.S. as well as licensed distribution channels in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific markets."

Two of the products--Lens Plus Rewetter Drops, a preservative-free saline solution, and Lens Plus Daily Cleaner, a cleanser for soft contact lenses --have been focused on the United States market. Three products--Lens Plus Aerosol, a preservative-free saline solution; LC-65 Daily Contact Lens Cleaner, a cleaner for gas-permeable hard and soft contact lenses; and Hydrocare Fizzy Tablets, an effervescent enzymatic cleaner in tablet form--have been marketed in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions.

Total Solution, a cleaning and wetting solution for hard contact lenses, has been marketed in Europe and the Middle East.
